No, I Didn’t Drown

Sorry about that…

I didn’t post for a few days and let a couple of my giveaways go way over! Sorry, no I didn’t fall off the edge of the earth and I didn’t drown either although sometimes I feel like I’m drowning in work. So here’s what’s been going on…

My baby turned 12 and it takes us almost a week to celebrate her birthday. It culminated with this humongous pumpkin shaped birthday cake that the celebrant decorated herself. At her request, the bottom layer is a devil’s food cake and the top layer is angel’s food cake. Do you see where she’s going with this yet?

Yeah, she’s taken Halloween as her own personal holiday.

On the college application front, my oldest daughter is a senior this year so you know what that means. Right now we are up to our necks in college applications, looking at apartments for rent in the towns of her chosen schools, and of course there are the dreaded achievement tests, the SAT and the ACT. That and that they all cost money to get done.

So sorry, if I’m a bit behind my book reviews and giveaway wrap ups. If I can just stop procrastinating, I would be catching up right now :P

Stay tuned for more reviews and giveaways!

The Health Care Reform

Posted By: JMom  //  Category: Health

It’s not a lie! Health Care Reform is sorely needed in this country. I posted a couple of articles on Amoores.com regarding my views on this.

First is a simple and self serving wish. I won’t assume to know what everyone else needs but I do know what I need and would want for my family in terms of health care. It kind of baffles me that so many people are against the plan. But then, like I said, I can’t pretend to know the specifics. My opinions are highly subjective and I can only speak about my own personal experiences.

I get anxiety attacks every time the girls get injured or sick even though we do have health insurance through my job. But it isn’t enough. I had the option of signing up for the Blue Cross North Carolina coverage but even that is not enough. Gone are the days when you can just show up at the doctor with your insurance card and you’re set. Now, even with my card I end up shelling additional money for charges that are not covered. So yeah, I get anxious.

The health care debate seems to be dragging on. The time frame set by the president keeps looming then passing by. I am ready for some changes already. Aren’t you?

Get a Grip!

We had just dozed off to sleep when my daughter bursts into our room, in a panic. The washer and dryer, located just by her bedroom, she claimed had sprung a leak and water has spilled onto the floor. My husband jumps out of bed in a frenzy. This is all we need, another problem with the plumbing after we just fixed a thousand dollar problem with the main line.

handlesHe comes back to bed after a few minutes and exclaimed, “Girls! It’s always a drama.” Luckily, he says the pipes didn’t bust as we initially assumed. What happened was, someone (don’t know who it could be ;) ) fiddled with the handles on the faucet leading to the washer and didn’t sufficiently tighten them shut. He swore he’ll get one of those industrial handles to replace the flimsy one that’s on there now. I went to sleep.

Is it the Camera?

Posted By: JMom  //  Category: Odds & Ends

jpmMy sweet sister gifted me with a new Canon Powershot digital camera for my birthday after my three year old Kodak finally reached its limit when my daughter dropped it after a fishing trip. Last week, which was my birthday too, we were testing out the camera in the backyard. Or rather, my kids were testing/playing with the camera. The photo I’ve posted here is one that they took of me, which they posted on facebook which my sister then printed and took to my mom’s house to show her.

They both had the same comment. You’ve lost weight! What have you been doing? Actually, I don’t think I’ve lost weight but I wouldn’t know since I don’t have a weight scale at home. I just go by how my clothes fit and I haven’t noticed anything falling off me. I told them it must be the camera. The photos it takes are somehow slimming. lol! My sister said, her camera didn’t have that feature!

Jokingly, I suggested it may be all the fat burners and apidexin reviews I’ve been doing. Maybe just reading all about the weight loss pills is enough? Is the power of suggesting that strong, you think? Nah, that’s about as plausible as the slimming feature on the digital camera. :D
