Just in time for the holidays, Julie and Julia, the movie, is being released in Blu-ray™ and DVD on December 8 from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. This would make a perfect gift for the food lover or Julia Child fan on your list.
I posted my review of the book and the movie here already so you know that I loved both and you’d think I would have had enough of the movie, right? But NO! You see, there is so much more on the DVD than what you saw in the movie. Remember the bonus features? Yeah, if you’re like me, you probably spend more time watching deleted scenes than the actual movie. The mini movies about the movies are also fun to watch. I like those ‘the-making-of’ movies.
So what’s going to be in the Julie and Julia Blu-ray™ and DVD? For starters, the behind-the-scenes movie is titled “Secret Ingredients: Creating Julie & Julia,” which features interviews with the cast and crew. Then there’s also the usual commentary by the writer and director.
Bonus features will also include:
“Julia’s Kitchen” - a tour of Julia Child’s one-of-a-kind kitchen now housed at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. The one that Julie visits at the end of the book and the movie.
“Family & Friends Remember Julia Child” - chronicles the life of Julia Child including other published works, her numerous television shows, her founding of the American Institute of Food and Wine, the many accolades she received, her philanthropy and her rarely discussed private life: the love story with her husband, her sense of humor, her amazing work ethic, and her love of teaching.
“Cooking Lessons” with master chefs Julia Child, Jacques Pépin, Mark Peel, Suzanne Goin, Steven Lewandowski and Drew Nieporent demonstrating how to make such mouthwatering dishes as Braised Beef Short Ribs and Butter Poached Maine Lobster. Dieters might want to pull out some appetite suppressants for this feature!
The Blu-ray Disc also features movieIQ with “Julia’s Recipe Collector,” where viewers can bookmark and email select Julia Child recipes featured throughout the film. movieIQ also allows viewers to access updated information on cast & crew while exploring relevant trivia such as production facts, music and soundtrack information.
In case you didn’t know, Julie Powell has a second book also coming out. Cleaving: A Story of Marriage, Meat and Obsession, is being released on Dec. 1, 2009. This makes me wonder if Julie is a glutton for punishment. As if cooking through MtAoFC wasn’t hard enough, this woman, goes and apprentices to be a butcher of all things! This should be another fun read.
