The Rice Babies

Rice BabiesI just saw the cutest little handmade dolls today at Etsy. They are made from cloth and felt applique by art teacher, Kellie Diguangco and are called Rice Babies. Since my girls love arts and crafts and have been making their own dolls since they were old enough to handle a needle, I knew they would love these dolls. The did!

They said the applique technique blended with embroidery and colorful fabrics reminded them of digital scrap booking which is their present laptop memory and time absorbing hobby. Anyway, back to the babies, we spent a long time looking at the whole inventory and checking out the different types of dolls available. It isn’t often that we see Asian dolls for kids much less a Filipino one or even rarer, a Filipino and Dutch mixed doll! They also loved the Where the Wild Things Are crown. Where the Wild Things Are is one of our favorite books and they even visited the Where the Wild Things Are playground in San Francisco.

Luckily, the Asian Mommy is giving away one of these beautiful dolls at her blog. If you would like a chance to win one of these beautiful dolls, go on over there and enter. However, if you’d like to simply buy one, make sure you visit the Rice Babies on Etsy. The artist can also custom make one for you to look like your child or whomever you choose.
