Fetching Friday for Bloggers

Posted By: JMom  //  Category: Blogging, Web Finds

One site that I have been subscribed to for a while because it has been tremendously helpful in my blogging attempts is Kikolani.com. Whether you’ve been blogging a while or just getting started, Kikolani.com has a ton of useful information for you. One series that I look forward to from Kikolani.com is her weekly Fetching Friday post. Every Friday, she posts about other blogs that she finds interesting that week. Kristi, the author of Kikolani.com, is an avid stumbler and Fetching Friday is a roundup of all the blogs she stumbled on.

I like Fetching Fridays because she organizes the posts she finds into categories that range from blogging, photography, to free seo tools. Here are how she breaks down some of the articles she stumbles on:

    Blogging & Writing
    Business & Finance
    Graphic & Web Design
    Make Money Online
Personal Development, Self Improvement & Health
    Photography & Digital Art
    Seach Engines/SEO
    Social Media
    Tech Security
    Wordpress

Once in a while she would also post about weird and bizarre things she finds online. I don’t always have time to read all the links, but of the ones that I have followed, I was never disappointed in the content and always found something new and interesting.

Oh, and if you’re interested, Kristi also hosts the Do-Follow Blog Directory. If you don’t know what do-follow means, get on over there and learn more about it.

You are doing it WRONG (URDIW)

Posted By: JMom  //  Category: Web Finds

This is a site I just stumbled on recently, it’s called URDIW, short for You Are Doing It Wrong. It’s a website where people can submit a sentence about something, anything that people are doing the wrong way. Some of them are quite funny.

If you’re on Twitter, you can follow their updates at http://twitter.com/urdiw.

Here’s a few examples of the wrongs that people submit on the site:

Peeing in the kiddie pool URDIW

Using WD40 as a sexual lubricant URDIW

Washing your cell phone in the sink after spilling soda on it URDIW

Thinking the US health care system is fine the way it is URDIW

Using the nordictrac to hang your clothes on URDIW

Complaining to the cop at a DUI checkpoint that he’s killing your buzz URDIW

Grabbing a knife by the blade URDIW

Pretty funny, yes? Check it out. Maybe you can submit something. Done anything wrong lately?

The Legend of the Shadowless Sword

Posted By: JMom  //  Category: DVD

One of my daughters and I recently got hooked on watching Korean dramas online. My other daughter, however, got hooked into watching Asian martial arts movies that are more in the genre of Azumi than say Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. So we were a bit excited when we ran across this DVD at the rental place.

The Legend of the Shadowless Sword (Muyeong geom) combines all the elements of Korean dramas and martial arts movies into one neat package. I think one thing that attracts me to Asian films, especially the well crafted martial arts films, is the sweeping cinematography. This movie does not disappoint. It also helps that the actors are just beautiful and glowing most of the time, never seeming a need for acne remedies and other beauty treatments. I found a pretty thorough and a bit scathing review of this movie on DVD Talk but I still recommend watching it yourself and making your own judgment. Here’s a small snippet of it from YouTube. My daughters and I, for one, enjoyed watching this movie.

Sonya’s Garden

From Tagaytay
A few years ago my daughters and I visited the Philippines and chanced upon this delightful bed and breakfast inn in Tagaytay, Philippines. It is called Sonia’s Garden and we were all enchanted by the serenity and beauty of the place. It was originally designed as a private sanctuary but was eventually opened up to the public so that others can also enjoy the peace of this beautiful place even for a little while. It has become a favorite weekend getaway especially for city dwellers who want to get away from the smog and crowds of the city. It is a place meant to rejuvenate the body and soul, where peaceful surroundings, beautiful gardens and healthy fare can work their magic naturally. There are no special diets or anti aging products needed at this place. As soon as you step through the gates and inhale the fresh breeze you immediately slough off the weight and pressures of hectic lives. Here, even if only for a while, you can let the calmness of nature surround you and let it seep through you. Rejuvenate you and refresh you. If only there were more places like this…

I think I am in need of another vacation.
