So did you get to watch the season 3 premier of Heroes last night? It was 3 hours worth on on NBC! I heard the pre-show was very interesting. You heard right, I said “I heard”. Why? because I totally missed the whole first hour of the show! I had to go pick up my daughter from her field hockey game and didn’t get home until 9 p.m. which would have been ok as that’s when the actual episode started. But wouldn’t you know it, my three kids stayed in my room to watch the show with me and bickered through the first hour! I was so glad when they finally went to bed at 10. Honestly, if they hadn’t been bickering so much and giving me a headache, I might have let them stay up later just to finish watching the show.
Anyway, overall, the premier was just OK for me. I don’t know if maybe I’m just getting desensitized to the show and it’s losing its excitement or if the writing and story line is just a little bit off this time. It seems to me like everyone was doing stupid things or just acting weirdly out of character. It’s like watching a bad horror movie. Scenes that are supposed to scare you are funny or just plain ludicrous. It could have been my grumpy frame of mind, I don’t know. What did you think of the show?
Here’s some observations of scenes that actually penetrated my foggled mind:
Sylar goes after Claire, the cheerleader to get her powers to heal. He chases her around the house, locking windows and doors with his telekinetic powers and eventually corners her in a closet. I don’t know why he didn’t just kick the door down and grabbed her out of there. I could have done that without special powers. Go figure! They wasted time having him pace outside the door. Another thing, he conveniently finds a box belonging to Noah, the cheerleader’s evil/maybe-not-so-evil dad labeled “Daddy’s Office”. Inside, files of other people with powers, complete with their personal information. Convenient, eh? Oh and the brain operation thing Sylar performs on the cheerleader? Puhleeze already!
Then there’s my favorite guy Hiro, sitting in his daddy’s office pondering his destiny when lo and behold, his destiny knocks on the door. Asi, my 15 year old daughter, called that one. Hiro’s father left him one of those ‘if-you’re-watching-this-I’m-dead’ videos where he tells him there is a secret in his safe but “don’t open it”. What, would he Hiro do, you think? Of course he’s going to!! Lame… the rest of Hiro’s story line, chasing after some formula that the super speed villain conveniently snatches from him after he’s been told not to open it… lame.
Mohinder. Remember him? Son of the Indian taxi driver who was on a quest to find all who have unique abilities? Mohinder was all set to go back to India when he discovers a breakthrough with Maya (remember the girl with black eyes that kill?). Anyway, long story short, Mohinder gets super powers too and all of a sudden he’s acting like the air conditioning compressor broke and had to take his shirt off in what I felt was a gratuitous show of abs, which were not bad, by the way. So he gets some super strength powers but loses some brain cells in the process apparently. He and Maya have hot sex on the table, don’t ask me what that was all about other than to inject another gratuitous sex scene. Which brings me to… what the heck is up with that little twit Maya anyway? First Sylar now Mohinder?
Claire IS the train wreck in this episode if you ask me. So what was the point of saving the cheerleader again? This episode, she is back to her simpering little self at the beginning of the series. Like she didn’t learn a thing from the first series. Her dad apparently doesn’t think she learned anything either so he brings in her biological mother, the firestarter. Hmhmm… Oh, and one last stupid moment on her adoptive mother’s part, some psychopath with super powers is after your daughter and you’re concerned that he raped her? Maybe the erasing of her memory erased more brain cells that it should have. I can’t say anything else about that.
Parkman. You remember him? The cop who can hear thoughts? He’s lost in Africa….. ‘Nuff said about that too.
Peter and Nathan Petrelli? I don’t know.. they just freakin’ lost me in all the brotherly love fest. I expected more and I was disappointed. Then there’s their mother who makes a final declaration at the end of this episode…… Sylar is also her son! tada!
So, what was your take on last night’s premier or Heroes?
