Summary:
A top celebrity portrait photographer, Jill Greenberg has a unique ability to coax powerful emotions out of her subjects - whether human or animal. Her portraits of bears, collected here for the first
time, surprise and engage. We encounter cubs as cute as a child’s Teddy, grizzlies that look like they might swallow you whole, and Polar bears seated in Sphinx-like tranquility.

Full-grown brown bears, grizzlies, black bears, Polar bears, and bear cubs are photographed on location against a portrait backdrop. The poses and facial expressions are at turns oddly comedic, pensive, terrifying, and sometimes unexpectedly human. Alive with Greenberg’s signature lighting and seen through the unique perspective of her lens, these startling bear portraits bring us face to face with our fears and fantasies.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Toward the end of his life Ansel Adams wrote, “People are skeptical about my thoughts on color. I do not blame them, as I have protested it and have not shown color pictures. I feel the urge now and only wish I was sixty years younger!”

Adams began to photograph in color in the mid-1930s. He did significant personal or “creative” photography in color, and his distinctive visualization of a scene and technical mastery is immediately evident in his color photographs. Overall, he made nearly 3,500 color images, but only a small fraction have ever been published.

Adams thought seriously about publishing his color images but the task was not accomplished during his lifetime. The Ansel Adams Publishing Rights Trust–with advice and counsel from John Szarkowski, former Director of Photography at New York’s Museum of Modern Art; David Travis, Curator of Photographs at the Art Institute of Chicago; and James Enyeart, former Director of the International Museum of Photography at George Eastman House–asked the distinguished master photographer Harry Callahan to select the best of Adams’ color work for publication in this book.

Accompanied by an introductory essay by Enyeart, and a selection of Adams’ fascinating, often contradictory writings on color photography, these magnificent color images add a new dimension to Adams’ enduring legacy.

Innocent Minds

What do you see when you look at the picture below? Look at it closely…

Did you see an erotic image? Then you have a dirty mind. ;) LOL!

Click on the photo to see what you’re supposed to be seeing if your mind wasn’t in the gutter. They claim that if you show this to kids, that they wouldn’t even see the erotic pose, they would only see dolphins swimming around.

Look again. Do you see the dolphins now? Well I tested it on my 16 year old and it didn’t work. Her mind was in the gutter too. Maybe I’ll try the eleven year old. She’s the youngest in the house. If you want to experiment too, go ahead. But if you get hauled off for corrupting a minor, don’t blame me!

Johnny in Wonderland

Fans of Johnny Depp will be eagerly awaiting his next adventure as the Mad Hatter in the classic Lewis Carroll fairy tale, Alice in Wonderland which is again going to be directed by Tim Burton and is set to be released in 2010. Tim Burton and Johnny Depp have previously worked together in Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and Sweeney Todd. I’m a fan of both and I can’t wait to see their take on one of my favorite classics.

Imagining what they would come up with, I can almost see something like Annie Leibovitz’ vision of Alice in wonderland:

10/08/08 UPDATE: Just saw this first look of how the movie will look like. I think it’s already getting that “Tim Burton” feel :)
