Clever and creative promotional ideas include unique mementos

There are some really wonderful promotional products on the market that can be customized and personalized to display a common theme, logo, or motif that is relevant to a business or organization. Many of these items are affordable and a great, cost-efficient strategy to increase company exposure, garner customers, or expand consumer audiences. Other shoppers seeking unique products may have different incentives and objectives for investing in customized products, including solidarity among group members, favors for parties or celebrations, or to commemorate a milestone in a clever way. Whatever the goal, the options for products is vast but there are some simple and affordable alternatives that might get overlooked when browsing. One great item to consider is the simple lapel pin.

Seniors Retiring Near Casinos – Is it a New Trend?

Last year my mother sold our family home in Los Angeles and moved to Las Vegas to retire. She said the house in L.A. had gotten too hard to maintain and since it was old, also needed lots of repairs that she just didn’t want to deal with. So, she decided to buy a house in Las Vegas.

Now if you know my mother, it’s probably not such a good idea that she moved someplace so close to casinos.

This week, we heard of another relative who moved to Tucson, this time, to retire. Which was not sounding bad at first but I didn’t know that where she moved is also close to an area popular because of the Tucson banquets and casinos! His children are not happy about it, buy he seemed happy enough with the new place, and so is my mother with hers.

I suppose so long as gambling remains a recreational activity and not a compulsion, that it should be alright. It’s when they become obsessed with the allure of easy money that they start walking on tenuous ground. I was reading that most seniors like these places because it ensures a ready source of entartainment for them. It’s something to do. Plus, like in my mom’s case, there are so many eating places that she hardly has too cook so I guess it has its benefits.

How do you organize your books?

My husband hates our headboard and this is one reason. This is the stack of books on my headboard. Well actually, it was the stack over a week ago. It has rotated a bit since then. See, I keep the books that I am reading right now close by. As in right above my head close by. I have several books started, and depending on my mood before I go to sleep, I will reach for the one that strikes my fancy. As I finish them, I will put them up on one of the bookshelves around the house and pull out another one to start. So yeah, the headboard is never clear of books.

I have a mental inventory of books that I have read and ones that I haven’t, the different genres, the ones that need to be reviewed and the ones that need to be given away. I keep saying that I will get more organized one day and maybe draft a spreadsheet listing all my books where I can check off the ones that I have read, the ones I have reviewed and the ones I have duplicates of. But, as life would have it, I just never seem to find time to do any organizing. At one time I had even considered getting one of those portable barcode scanner to inventory my books. But even with technology, you still have to find the time to actually do the organizing! And time is one thing that I don’t have a lot of. I’d rather spend what free time I have reading my books rather than organizing them.

So what is the method to my madness, you ask? My method is stacking. I have stacks like these ones on my headboard for the ones that I am reading. I have a stack on one bookcase of those that I have already read. Another stack are those that I haven’t read yet then I have a special stack of good books that I want to read but want to give them exclusive, uninterrupted time, so they are a treat that I save for rainy days. In a more secure spot, I have a stack of new books that I plan on giving away on this blog so I want to keep them clean, dust free and unmolested. It’s not a very efficient system and it’s bad because I am the only one who can follow it. When my husband gets the urge to clean up and organize, we end up arguing when he shifts my stacks around. So to keep peace, he’s learned to lay off my books until he just can’t stand it anymore then all bets are off and damn the torpedoes, he’ll organize them his way.

That lasts about a week then I get them all back to my system. Hey, it’s a mad system but it’s worked for me so far. How about you, how do you organize your books?

No, I Didn’t Drown

Sorry about that…

I didn’t post for a few days and let a couple of my giveaways go way over! Sorry, no I didn’t fall off the edge of the earth and I didn’t drown either although sometimes I feel like I’m drowning in work. So here’s what’s been going on…

My baby turned 12 and it takes us almost a week to celebrate her birthday. It culminated with this humongous pumpkin shaped birthday cake that the celebrant decorated herself. At her request, the bottom layer is a devil’s food cake and the top layer is angel’s food cake. Do you see where she’s going with this yet?

Yeah, she’s taken Halloween as her own personal holiday.

On the college application front, my oldest daughter is a senior this year so you know what that means. Right now we are up to our necks in college applications, looking at apartments for rent in the towns of her chosen schools, and of course there are the dreaded achievement tests, the SAT and the ACT. That and that they all cost money to get done.

So sorry, if I’m a bit behind my book reviews and giveaway wrap ups. If I can just stop procrastinating, I would be catching up right now ๐Ÿ˜›

Stay tuned for more reviews and giveaways!

Set Your Own Combination Lock

Today is the first day of school for my girls. Two of them are headed off to high school and the third is starting middle school this year. The one who is starting middle school is a bit apprehensive what with the new school, meeting new friends and all that. She is excited about one thing though, she’s going to get her own locker from now on!

I was going to give her this free 1590D Set-Your-Own Combination Lock that I received to review, but the school issues them their own lock that the school has a master key for. So, my oldest daughter got this new lock instead and she has been playing around with it at home. This morning, of course, it was packed into her book bag, all ready for school. Here is what she wrote about the Master Lock Set your Own Combination Lock. Read more

Is it the Camera?

jpmMy sweet sister gifted me with a new Canon Powershot digital camera for my birthday after my three year old Kodak finally reached its limit when my daughter dropped it after a fishing trip. Last week, which was my birthday too, we were testing out the camera in the backyard. Or rather, my kids were testing/playing with the camera. The photo I’ve posted here is one that they took of me, which they posted on facebook which my sister then printed and took to my mom’s house to show her.

They both had the same comment. You’ve lost weight! What have you been doing? Actually, I don’t think I’ve lost weight but I wouldn’t know since I don’t have a weight scale at home. I just go by how my clothes fit and I haven’t noticed anything falling off me. I told them it must be the camera. The photos it takes are somehow slimming. lol! My sister said, her camera didn’t have that feature!

Jokingly, I suggested it may be all the fat burners and apidexin reviews I’ve been doing. Maybe just reading all about the weight loss pills is enough? Is the power of suggesting that strong, you think? Nah, that’s about as plausible as the slimming feature on the digital camera. ๐Ÿ˜€
