Indy is Back!

I can’t believe the Indiana Jones movies is back with the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I watched the earlier Indy movies back in the eighties and was totally enamored with Harrison Ford. I can’t believe he did this new movie too after all these years!

Well last weekend we didn’t get a chance to do our movie fest, so I think this weekend may be it. Although, before the girls see this latest Indy movie, I had really planned on renting the earlier ones so they can become indoctrinated in the Indy lore first :)

My girls love old movies so I think they will probably enjoy watching the oldies first. Check theaters near you where the new Indiana Jones movie is playing.

Want a Truly Harrowing Experience?

Do you like to get your blood racing and your heart pumping? Do you like the gore and suspense in horror movies? Then you’re probably about to encounter the horror of horror movies, Frontier. This is an unrated horror movie that is being shown only in select theaters starting May 9th for only a week. After that, the DVD will be released.

Why the DVD so soon and why the limited time in theaters? Because the makers of the movie wants the movie to remain uncut and full for your viewing horror. They refused to edit it to satisfy movie censors. It was originally rated NC-17 and they would have had to perform drastic cuts just to make it comply with a Rated R rating so rather than do that, they opted to release it in DVD instead.

I think as I get older my tolerance for scary experiences gets lower because just watching the Trailer and listening to the music was wreaking havoc on my nerves already. It’s one of those movies where you’re almost too sickened to watch it but at the same time feel impelled to do so. You know the kind. It brings back memories of being scrunched down while watching a scary movie with both hands over my face with just enough of a sliver between fingers to peek at what’s going to happen next.

If you love being scared then this movie is something you definitely need to check out.

Weekend at the Movies

This weekend, the girls informed me, is for the movies. It’s been a few weeks since they’ve had an outing with their friends and we’ve missed a few movies as a result.

Some of the movies we’re considering are:
Forbidden Kingdom with Jackie Chan and Jet Li.
The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian where the adventures in Narnia continue after the first movie, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of Crystal Skull It’s been only a little over 25 years ago when the first Adventures of Indiana Jones movie came out, and here is the fourth installment. We who were fans of the first movies now introduce the wonders of these adventures to our children, much as we did with the Star Wars series.

It is actually fun to be able to share with our kids some of the things we enjoyed when we were their age.

A Different Kind of Notebook

UnknownMy daughter is going to Animazement in a couple of weeks. She has been looking forward to this event since last fall when her anime club at school started planning their attendance. She and her friends are die hard anime and manga fans. That’s how I know she would be enthusiastic about seeing this movie.

DeathNote is a movie about Light Yagami, a student who finds the Death Note, a notebook, inadvertently dropped by a death god, that has the power of death over any human whose name is written on its pages. The movie is being shown on a select few movie theaters and shown for only two nights on May 20 and 21, 2008. The theater nearest us, funny enough, is across the border in the next state. It’s showing here in North Carolina too, but all the way in Charlotte, a good three hours away from where we are in Durham. If we go to Danville, Virginia, it would be about an hour’s drive away. Strange, huh?

Spiderwick Chronicles the Movie

Spiderwick Chronicles the MovieThe girls (Asi and the Clone) and I went to see Spiderwick Chronicles last weekend. Jade went to go see Juno with her friends. I wanted to see that movie too, but I have to stick with the Clone so we always end up watching a rated G or PG movie. I haven’t read the books but the Clone is a fan of the Spiderwick books so she was really looking forward to seeing the movie.

I liked the movie even though the kids were typically annoying at times. The premise of the fairy hunter turned fairyland keeper was intriguing. I enjoyed the watching the adventures unfold and really loved the CG and special effects; but then I’m a sucker for the fantasy genre. The girls enjoyed the movie, I think, but as book readers they were really annoyed that details that were in the book were either omitted or changed around. But, as we later discussed, books are really hard to turn into movies because how you imagine the book is never exactly like how someone else would interpret it.
