Operation Immortality

moleskineThe world is about to end, humanity is about to become extinct. How would you want to be remembered? Would you want to be remembered? If you had to leave the planet and everything behind in order to survive, what would you take with you? Me, I would probably bring a notebook. A journal. I’m sure other people have already thought of saving the important things on earth; the history, the art, the culture. A journal and a pen would give me a way to document my journey into the unknown. You never know, maybe where we’re going we’d be able to blog again. What better fodder for a blog than the journey out of earth, right?

Well there’s a new online game, Tabula Rasa, which asks just those questions: Operation Immortality: Leave your mark. Save Humanity. You can create your own Tabula Rasa character and join in the MMORP community. Share your ideas and strategies with others and create your legacy. You can send your message out to the universe or help determine humanity’s greatest achievements.

You can download a free trial during the month of August, so hurry on over there if you like these online role playing games and check it out.

Believe

Magic tricks used to mean rabbits out of the hat, flying pigeons turned into kerchiefs and the finale, woman sawed in half! Illusions meant the disappearing act behind curtains and trap doors on the floor.

What if you took all the trappings off and ratcheted up the tricks? That’s what magicians/illusionists today, like Criss Angel, are doing. Criss Angel, for instance, does the woman cut in half trick. We’re so used to seeing the box part and the show wriggling that it really doesn’t impress us much anymore, right? But what if you see it Criss Angel’s way (look for the YouTube video - Criss Angel and Half a Woman. You’ll be amazed), without the props, in the middle of a park, with some random person (don’t really know if she is random or planted), and have her pulled apart by two volunteers? What if those two halves then run away from each other in shock? Would you believe? There are no mirrors, no smoke screen, just your eyes. Do you still trust them?

Want to see more? The famed Cirque du Soleil is now staging a new show at the Luxor in Las Vegas featuring Criss Angel, CRISS ANGEL Believe. It is going to be a sure blockbuster show.

Now you can win two tickets to the show by simply texting ‘Believe’ to 22122. Visit crissangel.com to learn more about the show and the contest.

Kids and Birthdays

By the way, did you notice the cheesecake pops photo in the previous post? I forgot to mention that I made those for my daughter’s birthday party as a favor for her friends. They loved it! Jaded teenagers that they are, they can still be bribed with a pretty and sweet treat.

My two older daughters turned 15 and 16 this year; they are now officially young ladies. Their birthday parties aren’t like they used to be anymore, now they are more apt to spend time with their friends than having a family hosted party. When they get together they still pass each other birthday invitations and plan their parties to the wazoo, but it now rarely involves a cartoon or Disney character. Rather, they involve which boy to invite or not, which outfit to wear or not, and where to hold the party. I kind of miss the days of elementary birthdays when the whole family can be involved.

Is Pop Idol a Role Model too?

MileyOn the morning shows, the news and the internet, the most recent scandal to talk about is the Miley Cyrus scandal, if you can call it that. She’s been the sweet and wholesome image of Disney’s Hannah Montana, adored by pre-teens all over. The scandal is, that the photos recently published in Vanity Fair magazine is supposedly too racy for her teen idol image. It doesn’t help either that a couple of weeks ago there was the other outrage because of an internet photo where she supposedly let a flash of her bra show.

She’s a teenager, after all and if you have teen agers, these things are quite mild compared to what teen agers can really get into nowadays. At least she hasn’t gon to alcohol rehab or drug rehab like other pop stars her age. She is a teenager and she will do what teens do. She is not some goddess that is above everyone else. That’s what where most people go wrong. Just because she’s on TV doesn’t mean she’s a role model. I think there is something wrong with our society anyway that idolizes actors on tv and movies. They are “acting” don’t people get it?

I sure don’t get what the big deal is.

Play for Real Not Virtually

When I was young, we had toys and we had tv and yeah, we even had arcades. But the most fun we had was playing outside with nothing more than our imaginations to fuel our play time. Our kids now are obsessed with computers and video games. At least when we played with our “video games” we usually had to walk down to the nearest arcade armed with a fist full of quarters, play only until our quarters ran out then walked back home. Our children don’t have to go out of the house anymore and they rarely do. They park in front of the tv or computer and stay there all day.

Spring is coming round again, and I’ve been thinking maybe it’s time to shelve some of our toys and get out for a walk or a run. Maybe the girls can actually go out and experience life in real life rather than just virtually. I keep saying girls but really, I’m guilty too. I find myself obsessing about my blogs and promoting my blogs and monetizing my blogs. I have to quit. Really!
