Summer Cleaning

5238dd240x180publicYesterday, I finally did the much delayed spring cleaning. Boy, did the house need it! I thought I could save energy and time by ignoring the slow build up of dust on every knick knack in the house. Then I seriously contemplated just getting rid of all the knick knacks and bric-a-bracs; minimalist decorating is ‘in’ isn’t it? The less we have to dust, it must save energy, especially mine, I thought, but when it came time to toss things out, I realized some of that junk was actually something we need or have some kind of sentimental value and actual worth.

So, there was no choice but to bite the bullet. Take out the cleaning supplies, roll up my sleeves and get to it. It was a lot of work and it took all day, but it helps when you have the right tools like the Dirt Devil vacuum cleaner. It makes easy work of getting rid of all the dust bunnies that have accumulated in the corners, on top of cabinets, behind appliances and under furnitures. The Dirt Devil holds an Energy Star rating, so you can run it all day long and know that you aren’t expending tons of energy because having the energy star rating means that the appliance is designed to be energy efficient and optimized to function at the top level without using up a lot of electricity.

At the end of the day, I’ve spent a little electricity, lots of cleaning supplies and lots of elbow grease, but the house is sparkling! I couldn’t help but sit back and enjoy just looking at my handiwork. Oh, excuse me, our handiwork :)

Clean is What Cleaning Does

UnknownIf I’ve ever had any doubt about the individuality of children, all I have to do is look within the confines of my own house. We are a family of five and we all have our own quirks and traits that are totally different from each other. When I hear people say, “Oh, but they were raised in the same house, how did that happen?” I know how it happens. No matter how you try to raise all your children in the same manner, they will always have their own individual habits and traits that make them unique.

One of our biggest mistakes is to put our two older daughters in the same room. They are like the Odd Couple. One is obsessively clean and the other couldn’t care less what state her half of the room is in. The cleaning obsessed one even asked for one of those slick Kone vacuums for Christmas. We had to tell her to take it easy on the thing, she’s been vacuuming like a mad woman and probably burning up a ton of electricity.

Of course, she kindly pointed out how HER vacuum cleaner is Energy Star rated and consumes less energy than most appliances. To which, the other sister piped in from behind the pile of junk on her side of the room, “you can save more energy if you didn’t use that thing at all!”

True, we can save money by not using the vacuum, washing machine, and drier as she suggested. Then we can spend the money we saved on energy by buying some air fresheners!! Because, after a week of not cleaning, PHEW!! Can you just imagine?

Want a hotdog?

Hot Dog ToasterMy husband and daughters love hotdogs. We have a hotdog and hamburger night at least once a month and something like this Hot Dog Toaster would be a big hit at my house. No need to heat up the buns separately, you can heat them all up at the same time. This would be great for heating up left overs too especially since every time we have our hotdog/hamburger night we usually end up making enough to eat for a couple of meals afterwards.

My New Stove

I’m itching to write about my new stove. Yeah, I got me a new one and I’m excited. I’ve have it for a week already, but I haven’t had a chance to use it yet :(

I’m almost starting to get depressed. I go in my kitchen and see it gleaming. I run my hand across it as I go by but it remains cold. That’s because it’s not connected yet!!! arghhh, it’s making me mad that the city inspector hasn’t come by yet to inspect the gas lines so we can’t connect it, so no we can’t use it yet.

I’ll post my new baby as soon as I can get it fired up. If ever. *sigh*
