Are You SEO Savvy?

SEO optimization. If you’re a blogger or run a website, I am sure you have heard the term SEO before. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the method for getting your site noticed by search engines. Why is that important? Well if you have a site that you’d want people to visit, then you have to make sure that you come up close to the top of results whenever someone searches for the type of service that you offer. That is, when they enter specific search terms on a search engine, you want to be close to the top or at least in the first couple of page results.

For instance, if you are a food blogger and would like to be known for your coconut cake, you have to make sure that whenever someone searches for “coconut cake” or “coconut cake recipe” that you come out on top. Otherwise, your site will be relegated or buried deep in page 10 or 100 and no one will ever find you. By utilizing SEO techniques, you can be sure to show up where people can find your site easier.

I am no expert on SEO and I must admit, I haven’t really bothered with it much. With more blogs popping up daily though, the competition to do well in search results is increasing and I have noticed that more and more bloggers are talking about it and making themselves more SEO savvy. I get offers for SEO optimization through my email all the time but I have been resistant to shell out money to have someone else optimize my sites for me. Some of them can be quite expensive! My blogs don’t earn enough money to warrant spending that much yet, but the argument can also be made that I will never earn enough if I don’t optimize! It’s a vicious circle!

Well if you’re on the cheap side like me, there are, I found, seo services that may be more in our price range. While a dedicated SEO consultant can tailor a marketing strategy specifically for your site, they also charge accordingly. On the cheap, you can try to optimize on your own by buying ‘piece meal’ from seo services. If you are an SEO expert, you can also use these services to offer your services.

I hadn’t thought about going about SEO optimization on my own, but the more blogs I read talking about it, the more encouraged I am to jump in the bandwagon.

How about you, have you started optimizing your blogs? How are you going about it and how is it working out for you?
