Arm & Hammer Basket

I received this beauty basket for the ARM & HAMMER® Blog Tour through Mom Central. You heard that right, I said beauty basket. It’s a veritable spa in here! I bet you hadn’t thought of using baking soda beyond the kitchen, right? Well did you know that baking soda can be used to pamper yourself as well?

I received a little booklet with this basket that describes the different ways that you can use ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda as a beauty product. For the fraction of the cost, you can use ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda to exfoliate your skin, use in your pedicure, to clean your hair and to freshen your breath. The best thing about using baking soda is, you are using something that is more natural and has less chemicals than some of the products you probably already use. Here are some of the ideas in the book:

Facial Scrub and Body Exfoliant
For smooth, radiant skin, give yourself a gentle facial and body scrub with ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda. Make a paste of 3 parts ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda to 1 part water. Rub in a gentle circular motion to exfoliate skin and remove dead skin cells. Rinse clean. Gentle enough for daily use!

Hair Care
Get rid of product buildup by sprinkling a small amount (quarter-size) of ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda into your palm along with your favorite shampoo. Shampoo as usual and rinse thoroughly. The ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda helps remove the residue that styling products leave behind so your hair is cleaner and more manageable.

Soothing Bath Soak
For a relaxing ending to a long day, add 1/2 cup of ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda to your bath to neutralize acids on the skin and help wash away oil and perspiration. Your skin will feel silky smooth!

Home Pedicure Foot Soak
Start your home pedicure by dissolving 3 tablespoons of ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda in a basin of warm water and soak feet. Gently scrub with a paste of ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda.

Pearly Whites
For gleaming smiles, brush teeth with ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda. . Just sprinkle baking soda into your palm, dip a damp toothbrush into it, and brush*. For a refreshing mouthwash, use 1 teaspoon baking soda in ½ glass of water. Swish the solution through your teeth and rinse.

*ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda does not contain the anti-cavity ingredient fluoride. Use it where water is fluorinated or when non-fluoride toothpaste is desired for adult use or as directed by your dentist of physician.

Hand Cleanser
Soften skin with a paste of 3 parts ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda to 1 part water. Forget the harsh soaps and gently scrub away ground-in dirt and neutralize odors on hands with 3 parts ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda to your liquid hand soap. Then rinse clean.

Clean Brushes and Combs
For lustrous hair with more shine, keep brushes and combs clean with ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda. Remove natural oil build-up and hair product residue by soaking combs and brushes in a solution of 1 teaspoon of ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda in a small basin of warm water. Rinse and allow to dry.

Natural Deodorant
Dust ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda under arms as needed to feel fresh all day. The magic of ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda actually absorbs odors instead of just covering them up.

A&HI already use ARM & HAMMER® Baking Soda for some things. I am a big coffee drinker and the main thing that I used baking soda for was to remove stains from my teeth. Sure you can use it as a regular toothpaste, but let’s admit it, you probably won’t because of the taste. But if you’re just concerned about getting your teeth cleaned, this is way cheaper than branded toothpastes!

But getting back to coffee and cigarette stains. If you smoke and drink coffee, you’ll know that you usually start seeing stains on your teeth way before it’s time to go back to the dentist. Baking soda has come in handy for me during those times. For really hard to remove stains, I use a q-tip dipped in baking soda and scrub the offending spots. It really works!

Now if it can remove coffee and cigarette stains from your teeth, then you’ve got to realize that baking soda has got to be a great exfoliant. I use it in foot soaks for me and my husband when we do our pedicures. It really works well getting all the dried skin from your heels and the bottom of your feet. We do a major pedicure when sandal season comes around and now my teenage girls are starting to do this ritual too.

While we’ve been using it for our feet and teeth, I didn’t think to use baking soda on my face. So when I received this basket and beauty tips, the first thing I tried is to use it as a facial scrub. It’s true what they said about it being gentle enough for everyday use. I have been using it for a week and my skin is fine, and it feels so clean and refreshed after every scrub.

I didn’t ever think to use it for cleaning hair brushes and combs either so this weekend, we did just that. We cleaned all our hair brushes and combs by soaking them in a solution of warm water and baking soda and now we have hair implements that look almost brand new and spanking clean!

I can’t wait to go through all the uses mentioned above and put them through the test. BTW, I also really like the baking soda dispenser that came with this beauty basket. I used to always just put the box of baking soda in a plastic bag once opened, but putting it in the dispenser is so much neater and more attractive on the bathroom shelf!

“I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Arm & Hammer and received a beauty basket to thank me for taking the time to participate.”
