Travel America in Style

You don’t have to be a world traveler to ever have a need to rent a car. There are a number of times when you need a car rental right at home. Actually, the few times I have rented cars, it’s been to use within 50 miles of home.

Sometimes, maybe you just need a nicer car than your clunker to drive to a special event or maybe you need something that won’t guzzle up as much gas. Whatever the reason or occasion, you can rent luxury and convertible cars for as much as a 50% disount at Advantage Rent a Car. Check their website (www.advantage.com) for daily and weekly regional rates and you can save even more.

American Gods by Neil Gaiman

I bought the Anansi Boys sometime ago but I haven’t read it yet. I am saving it for a good day. In the meantime, I got American Gods from the library so I can read it first.

I’ve loved all of Neil Gaiman’s books and have read Stardust and Neverwhere. I decided to start with the thinner volumes :)

American Gods was a very interesting and satisfying read. I like fantasy novels that work on a premise that I hadn’t read of before. In American Gods, the basic premise is that when early settlers to this country first landed on American soil, they brought with them their Gods from the old world. The old Gods flourished in this new country as they did in the old as long as someone believed in them. In these modern times in the new world, the old Gods have been pretty much forgotten. But what do old Gods do when no one knows about them anymore? Their story are the stories within the story in American Gods which is about a man named Shadow. Shadow has been dreaming of the day when he gets out of prison and gets to see his wife again. He swore that when he got out of prison he’ll do everything to never go back again and just live a peaceful and happy life with his wife.

Isn’t it always the case that when you want something too much, you may never get it? A day before he is released, Shadow learns that his wife has been killed in a car accident. To make things worse, on the plane home, Shadow is immediately derailed by a Mr. Wednesday, a mysterious man who seemed to know an awful lot about him. Shadow grew suspicious and got off the plane the first chance he got but it seems the fate that Mr. Wednesday has in mind for Shadow had just his incident in mind to get Shadow off his laid out plan. A revolution of sorts is brewing and unbeknown to Shadow, he will not only be caught up in it, he will be the center of it.

This is a long book, but you will never be bored. There are stories woven within stories that will keep you entranced and surprise you.

It’s Always a Good Idea to Shop Around and Compare

Not all of us have a hidden treasure in our attic worth millions like the woman who just earned over 8 million dollars for a piece of paper with the lyrics for Give Peace a Chance written by John Lennon himself. Unfortunately, even with all the advice floating around against using or, worst, relying on credit cards, many of us still do either out of necessity or convenience.

Credit cards are actually not bad, especially in this plastic world we live in, provided you get the right on and you manage how they are used and administered carefully. Before getting a credit card, it’s always a good idea to compare what’s out there rather than just settling for the first pre-approved offer you get in your mailbox. You can use the internet to investigate the credit card companies and their offers which will require a little bit of effort on your part but could end up saving you lots of money. There is also a Credit Cards Club which has compiled, in one site, a plethora of information about different types of credit cards and the features that make them different from each other, making you more informed about the type of credit card that is right for you. For instance, find out how your credit card rating can affect the type of credit card and interest rate you can get. Learn which credit cards will give you extras like gas rewards or airline rewards just for using them. If you have bad credit, they also have information on how you can restart your credit, which credit cards are suitable for your situation, and many more useful information like that.

So before you sign up for another credit card, make sure you do a little research first. If you can, do a lot of research and you’ll be richer for it.

The $833,654 Candy Bar

Persistence and a candy bar earns a Canadian woman almost a million dollars. In this case, being a fanatic fan with a sweet tooth can pay off.

I’m sure by now everyone has heard about John Lennon’s lyrics to Give Peace a Chance, which was personally handwritten on a plain piece of paper, that was recently auctioned at the famed Christies for a whopping $833,654!

As a daring sixteen year old, Gail Renard sneaked into the Montreal Hotel in 1969 during John and Yoko Ono’s week long bed-in for peace to get an interview for her school’s papers. After sneaking past the security guard, they simply knocked on the hotel suite and were invited in by Yoko herself. While talking to Yoko and John, he mentioned that he was hungry and the room service haven’t yet brought their food. The resourceful sixteen year old took out a candy bar from her purse and handed it to John and that started the rapport between them that lead to him inviting her to stay the rest of the week resulting in him giving her the hand written lyrics to Give Peace a Chance, which has then become the anthem for world peace.
