Running

Running, running
As fast as we can
I really hope you make it
(do you think we’ll make it?)
We’re running
Keep holding my hand
It’s so we don’t get separated
~No Doubt “Running”

Field Hockey season starts soon. My daughter Jade is playing Field Hockey this year, and keeps talking about going running to get in shape, I’ve been trying to take her but we always end up getting busy, or lazy, or it gets too hot outside. With the heat outside, she really wishes she had a treadmill, or could visit a gym where they have multiple treadmills to work out on… indoors… with the air-conditioning. However we don’t have the room or the money to buy a treadmill that will–lets face it–get minimal use. They’re great, and it would be nice, but we have plenty of free sidewalk as of now. :)

Writing

I recently decided to start a new journal to write my private thoughts. I enjoy buying cutesy notebooks and ink pens to use. Even with my blog, and journal programs which I can use on the computer, I still prefer to write things in a notebook. I like the feel of the paper, and being able to doodle, and have something you can touch hold your innermost feelings. The world is becoming highly dependent on all things cyber and electronic. I enjoy feeling grounded and relaxing with my pen and paper. I will always keep a journal, I always have.

For Matrimonial Purposes

My grandmother was married off two days shy of her tenth birthday. My mother found a husband when she was twenty. I thus reckoned that if every generation increased by a decade the acceptable age for marriage, I should have become a wife by thirty. But at thirty-three, I was nowhere close to being married. And it was this that brought much consternation to all, tainting the joy and iciting hitherto-suppressed family politics, at the wedding of my twenty-two-year-old cousin, Nina. ~Kavita Daswani in For Matrimonial Purposes

For Matrimonial Purposes is a novel by Kavita Daswani. It outlines the misadventures of Anju, a woman considered somewhat past her prime in the dating scene of India. In India there is much pressure on girls to marry young and settle down with a suitable young man, of good caste(social standing) and religion. From the very beginning it is obvious that Anju is doomed, and every relationship opportunity to come up will be a complete failure.

Daswani’s novel is a great read that is captivating in all its mystery and romance. The story’s hero, Anju, is a character you want to root for, you feel her pain and her distress. With each turn of the page a bit more of her story is unraveled and it seems Anju will never find a respectable mate. However, as you begin to understand Anju, you also begin to understand that when it seems others happiness depends on you, it helps if you are first happy yourself.

For Matrimonial Purposes is a fun read, and I highly recommend it.

Four Eyes Isn’t What It Used To Be

There was a time when most kids who are prescribed to wear glasses are doomed to being tagged as four eyes and other mean names. Now, with so many stylish frames available, some kids who don’t need glasses are wishing they had some. They even go as far as getting frames with just regular glasses.Whether you need glasses or just wear them for fashion, you can now get them from zennioptical.com for very reasonable prices. They have hundreds of stylish frames to choose from and your prescription lenses can be crafted in no time at the quality you expect. Zenni Optical can afford to sell you quality frames and lenses at highly discounted prices because they manufacture them themselves and they sell them directly to you, the consumer.

If you need glasses, make sure you check them out. I’ve checked them out and the next time my daughter needs new glasses, I know where to order them from.

Too Bad, Meizu

MeizuI had mentioned previously how my daughter loved her Meizu MP4 Media Player. She still does, actually, but unfortunately she can’t use it anymore.

Around March, which was approximately six months after she bought her media player, it just twitched and died. While she was listening to her music, the screen suddenly fritz to just wavy lines (much like when your TV messes up) then blackness. I think it may just be a screen problem because it still plays music when you turn it on, but you can’t do anything else like backing up your music, forwarding it, selecting, etc. because the screen is dead! So my daughter has been kind of depressed over losing her player and also her money.

We tried to contact the manufacturer, Meizu, but haven’t had any reply. We tried contacting the people who sold the Meizu and issued a limited warranty for it, Dane-Electronics, going as far as leaving a message on their forum, but so far haven’t received any reply from them. From what I gather from other Meizu player owners, you are pretty much on your own when you buy this player. There aren’t very many distributors or service centers around.

I’m going to wait a few more days and see if I get any replies from the forums.
