Fat Myths

Posted By: JMom  //  Category: Health

Another drug that some people are taking to lose weight is lipovox. It claims to burn more fat than diet and exercise alone.

Like I always tell my girls, if there was a magic pill that will let everyone eat as much as they want, whatever they want, and not get fat, then there will be no more fat people on earth. But everywhere you go, you still see obese people, don’t you? Do you really think they want to look that way? If there was a way where they didn’t look that way or be out of breath after a few steps, don’t you think they would have been on it already? The thing is, nothing really works to burn fat other than to stop ingesting them and burning the ones you have through exercise. Sorry, no shortcuts.

Well, no easy and safe shortcuts anyway.

Kids and Eating

The morning show on TV were discussing how childhood obesity in this country is sky rocketing and how a lot of people are afraid to discuss it. I noticed this too. Especially doctors when you go for check up, they kind of skirt around the issue of the kids’ weight. While the show says that this is because a lot of parents are in denial and cannot see how big their children are getting, or they feel that it is something that they have no control over.

Now I have never been one to worry about the girls’ weigh. I want them to grow up to have a healthy sense of self and like themselves for how they are naturally built. One of my daughters is very over weight, and I want her to eat healthier and exercise more so she can lose a little bit of weight. I know she is starting to get a bit self conscious about her weight, so I’ve been trying to cook healthier and give her better choices at home. Especially now that it’s summer time and they are home all day. I want her to lose the weight naturally and not resort to drastic dieting and exercising. I still want her to be comfortable with who she is.

I just don’t want her to grow up and have to depend on drugs such as Phentermine to help her lose weight. I still believe that their is always a natural way to fix things without resorting to any kind of medication.

It’s in the Jeans

Sometimes I don’t know if I’ve created a monster or if I’ve simply raised my daughter to be wise with her spending. She told me she needed new jeans last weekend, so we went to her favorite store, Charlotte Russe to get her a pair or two. But when we got there, they didn’t have any sale on jeans going on. They were all at full price, which was still not bad at $25 to $30 a pair. But no, she didn’t want to get them. She said she will wait until they go on sale for $19.99 or less.

She’s getting as spend thrift as her momma! Maybe it’s in the jeans ;)

There’s a BlueTooth in Your Ear

Sometimes when I see one, I feel like going up to that person, tapping them on the shoulder and saying, “Excuse me, there’s a blue tooth in your ear”. Do you think they would get the humor?

They’d probably get irritated with me, but heck, they irritate me too! Have you ever walked down a grocery aisle, minding your own business, thinking about this evenings dinner, when suddenly behind you, you hear, “Hi! how have you been?” So you turn around with a welcoming smile on your face and…..

you see the person walking towards you with a Bluetooth headset on, talking to someone else! So you slowly ease that smile off your face lest you embarrass yourself. GRRRR!

Anime BagI’m posting this here so I won’t forget because I will definitely be going back to this site. I’ve mentioned before how my daughter just loves anything anime. I’m sure she would love this site too. It’s called AnimeNation and they sell everything anime from DVDs, books, soundtrack, clothes and other accessories like this cute Inu-Yasha bag. I almost want this one for myself! :)

I found this site via The Inner Shopper who was also eyeing another bag.

MADD on the Water

With the rising temperatures of summer, more and more people are being drawn to the water. Being at the beach or at the lake is a perfect way to cool off and at the same time enjoy the day with family and friends. Unfortunately, here in North Carolina and other states like Arizona, you always hear of casualties in water. Whether it is due to a boating accident or drowning, there is always at least one incident every summer.

According to statistics, from the Arizona Boating website, a third of all fatal boating accidents are due to or related to alcohol use. That is why I get so irritated when we are at the lake and you see people who are being so irresponsible; especially when they are operating a boat. It is so irritating and at the same time scary to see someone chugging down beer after beer while driving a boat! You wouldn’t be taking swigs of alcohol when you’re driving a car, so why would someone do that when driving a boat? It’s still a moving vehicle. It’s still big enough to harm people. But, for some reason these people just don’t know or care about their own safety or the safety of others.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department are to be commended for taking on this very important issue. Boating Education Online is offered on their website to educate all boaters about the law regarding drinking alcohol and operating a boat. For instance, know that the legal blood alcohol limit for operating a boat is the same as for driving on the road, 0.8. Officers for the Arizona Game and Fish department plan to be very visible on the waters this summer to keep everyone safe. If caught, you can be cited for Boating Operating Under the Influence. So if you plan on drinking and driving in Arizona or in any other state for that matter, better think twice. Not only are the Game and Fish officers watching, mothers like me and other concerned citizens are also watching and will report anyone suspected of driving while impaired.
