A Different Kind of Notebook

UnknownMy daughter is going to Animazement in a couple of weeks. She has been looking forward to this event since last fall when her anime club at school started planning their attendance. She and her friends are die hard anime and manga fans. That’s how I know she would be enthusiastic about seeing this movie.

DeathNote is a movie about Light Yagami, a student who finds the Death Note, a notebook, inadvertently dropped by a death god, that has the power of death over any human whose name is written on its pages. The movie is being shown on a select few movie theaters and shown for only two nights on May 20 and 21, 2008. The theater nearest us, funny enough, is across the border in the next state. It’s showing here in North Carolina too, but all the way in Charlotte, a good three hours away from where we are in Durham. If we go to Danville, Virginia, it would be about an hour’s drive away. Strange, huh?

Harvest Cookies

Harvest Cookies Havest CookiesWe went to a Japanese market a couple of weeks ago looking for bento boxes. Instead, my daughter discovered these delicious Harvest cookies. She got a bag each of the sugar and chocolate flavors. They are very thin and delicate wafer cookies with a slightly nutty flavor. They also came attractively packaged individually so that if you couldn’t eat the whole pack at once, they wouldn’t go stale. They were also perfect for them to take with their lunch for school. We are definitely getting more of these next time we go to the Asian market.

The Backyard Junk

My Backyard

This is my dismal looking backyard in winter. Everything is dead and our sad outdoor furniture, if you can call it that, is in bad need of repair. The weather is nicer now and our backyard is greener, but the same old junky looking furniture is still there. Our backyard really needs a makeover.

I must say, the aquarium turned coffee table gets noticed a lot. They call it junk art :(

Kids and Birthdays

By the way, did you notice the cheesecake pops photo in the previous post? I forgot to mention that I made those for my daughter’s birthday party as a favor for her friends. They loved it! Jaded teenagers that they are, they can still be bribed with a pretty and sweet treat.

My two older daughters turned 15 and 16 this year; they are now officially young ladies. Their birthday parties aren’t like they used to be anymore, now they are more apt to spend time with their friends than having a family hosted party. When they get together they still pass each other birthday invitations and plan their parties to the wazoo, but it now rarely involves a cartoon or Disney character. Rather, they involve which boy to invite or not, which outfit to wear or not, and where to hold the party. I kind of miss the days of elementary birthdays when the whole family can be involved.

Good Eatin’ in Our Kitchen

I am a little behind posting in all my blogs what with being away last week visiting family in Los Angeles. There is a back log of recipes waiting to be posted on Cooked From the Heart, my food blog. I have book reviews and restaurant reviews that I better write up for this blog before I forget about them, and I have a couple of tutorials that I’ve been working on for a friend that I will also cross post on my blog about blogging.

I have lots of catching up to do, don’t I? Oh, and don’t forget that I still gotta earn some money too!

Anyway, here’s some tasty morsels for you. Click to check them out.
