Friends near and far

I heard from a friend last week that their plans to move to North Carolina has been postponed for the meantime. The job he was hoping to get didn’t come through so they are staying put up north until something else comes up. He has an offer from a company in New York but I’m trying to encourage him to wait for an offer further south. It would be nice to have a close friend living nearby again. At least he won’t be needing a New York Moving Company anytime soon :)

Selfish, I know, but he and his wife agree that the kids would probably fare better here in NC than in New York anyway. Plus, with the state of the real estate market right now, they realize they probably need to wait a little longer before they sell their present home.

A Good Impression Can Make You or Fade You

The first impression does not allow for second chances. That’s why it’s called “first” after all. If you want to make an impact, whether as a business or an individual, you always want to make the best impression that you can project. One way to do that is to have a professional business card on the ready to make people remember you.

It’s called branding. Make a significant impact immediately and you will be remembered. You’ve experienced it before. The most successful products and brands are the ones that are easily identifiable just based on their looks alone. For instance if you see the letter M on a primary colored circle, do you immediately think of M&Ms? How about when you see the red and white circular bull’s eye. Does the company’s name immediately come to mind? That’s because you’ve imprinted on their logo.

The symbol you choose to represent your or your company’s image makes a big difference on the impression you make to your customers. That’s why businesses spend a lot of money developing their image and brand. However, if you are a small business, as most of us are, sometimes the cost of developing a logo is just not in the budget.

Without breaking your budget, you can design your own logo to use in all your communications. A logo design is within easy reach with LogoYes. They have an easy to use design platform that will walk you through the process of creating your own logo. They have a good selection of clip art and layouts to choose from. It’s easy to get engrossed choosing various designs for your logo. The great thing about their logo design platform is that it saves someone like me, who has a tendency to over accessorize, from going overboard. They have sleek and streamlined layouts so that you can’t go wrong staying simple. I love simple, uncluttered and meaningful designs!

Once you’re done creating your logo, proceed through the check out and a high quality image of your design will be sent to you for use in your letterheads, business cards, invoices and other business forms. Try designing your own logo or if you’d rather, they also have a custom design service available.

Busting calories

By the way, speaking of staying trim and losing a few pounds, I was invited by one of the ladies in my walking club at work to join her in her gym. She also weight trains and says that weight training not only helps you to build build muscle but it is also one of the fastest calorie busting activity. I have never had a lot of upper body strength so lifting weights has always been a bit intimidating for me. I’m thinking of giving it a try though.

Food, glorious food!

sushiMy mother just celebrated a birthday and so did my daughter. We just happened to all go out to eat on the same night to celebrate. They went to Onami a Japanese restaurant and we went to Peony Bistro, also a Japanese restaurant. We all had our fill of sushi! The only difference is, they are on the west coast and we are on the east. :)

While eating, we were discussing how we celebrate almost any occasion with food. I don’t mind, the kids don’t mind and my husband definitely doesn’t mind. The only thing that probably minds is my waistline. Unfortunately, I don’t have the same metabolism as the rest of the family and I can tell almost immediately when I’ve crossed the line. I would never resort to diet pills or anything like that, but I sure need to cut back some the next few weeks just to not compound all the calories I ingested in one weekend. Oh, I forgot I also used the occasion of my daughter’s birthday to do some baking. :P
