Ever wonder…

On the previous post, I referred to my oyster musings during my younger days. Do you still wonder about seemingly improbable things? Do you ever ask questions like, “Who owns the internet?” or “What if I were stuck by lightning?”

If you’re the curious type, then How Stuff Works may very well work for you. You might find out that Al Gore didn’t really create the internet or that Genghis Khan didn’t really kill 1,748,000 people in a single hour. They have ’stuff’ on just about any subject that may interest you from food, to history, to politics to entertainment.

Oysters

I’ve always loved oysters in every way possible it could be eaten. My dad got me started eating oysters when I was young. We would go swimming in the bay by his childhood home and dive for rocks encrusted with oysters, bring them to the surface and shuck them right off the rocks on the beach. That was one of the sweetest ways to enjoy oysters I’ve found. It was also around this time that I learned that pearls came from oysters. I had a running fantasy of finding a gigantic oyster on one of these diving expeditions and I would become rich and famous. Then when I learned that pearls form when a grain of sand invades the oyster shell and it then creates the pearlescent coating around the sand to protect itself. I wondered well, what if a huge rock was put in the oyster shell, would you then get a humongous pearl? What if you put something else? Don’t they say that diamonds are just coals? What if you put a coal in an oyster shell, would it then make a diamond?

I never did get a chance to find answers to any of my theories. We always ended up eating the oysters we brought up before we could experiment on their pearl producing capabilities. They were good thoughts to have floating in my head though while wiling away lazy afternoons during my childhood.

Now, oysters are strictly for epicurean enjoyments and not the stuff of fantasy. Well, except of course when the fantasy includes decadent rockefellers or piping bisques. The best way of eating them is of course naked. Not you, the oysters. However, this sometimes post a risk especially for individuals who have compromised immune systems. You are, after all, ingesting a living organism into your system. But as long as you are aware and are careful of where your oysters are harvested, you should be ok. I’ve never had a bad experience with eating oysters.

Gulf oysters, for a while had a bad rep among oyster eaters, but lately with better farming practices and consumer awareness, they are again resurging in the fish markets. However you like your oysters, make sure to always investigate where they were harvested to ensure that you always have a good experience.

Going Bananas

bananasDo you know all the beneficial things about a banana? Get happy and check out all the good stuff about bananas that you probably didn’t even know.

Just as an example, did you know bananas are good for depression, PMS, anemia and blood pressure?

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, “A banana a day keeps the doctor away!

A New Earth

I’m a big fan of Oprah’s book club even though I’m always a year or two behind in my reading. The book selection right now is Eckhart Tolle’s A New Earth: Awakening to Your Life’s Purpose. They even have an online classroom going on Oprah’s website to discuss the book and “A New Earth” as they put it.

A New Earth encourages ever yone of us to change the way we live in order to make a difference. To find purpose and meaning in our lives. Tolle asks (which reminds of Horton Hears a Who which is now out in movies), what can one person do to change the world? A New Earth is supposed to guide us in finding our purpose while also initiating change in the world that we live in.

The Sedona Method mirrors the same ideals as A New Earth. It provides “simple, powerful, easy-to-learn and duplicate technique that shows you how to uncover your natural ability to surrender – or let go. It naturally shows you how to let go of the tendencies that cause you to flee from freedom as opposed to whole heartedly embracing it.” The Sedona Method will provide you with the tools to let go of the limiting habits and thoughts that have prevented many of us from attaining inner peace and spreading it outwards. Sometimes when we look inward first, our outward vision becomes much clearer and lucid. Our awareness of us, and of what surrounds us and how we react to it is central to the teachings of a new earth and the Sedona method.

Call it what you want: self awareness, spiritual enlightenment, transcendence or a new earth. It is all the same, the search for a way of living peacefully and responsibly on this earth. It is what we all ultimately ask of ourselves, what is our purpose and what were we put on this earth to do? If you’ve embarked on this journey and need additional guidance, I suggest visiting the Sedona Method website and request for the free DVD and CD for additional background information to get you started.

BlueHost

My husband recently decided to move his website to it’s own host rather than sharing mine. Of course, as it always seems to be the case, something inevitably goes wrong when you move a perfectly working website from one host box to another. He stayed on with BlueHost which is what I use, just another account or ‘box’. So it should be as simple as taking some of the contents from one box and dropping them into the other, right? WRONG.

He’s been fiddling with his new host and website for days and it’s still not working as it did. Luckily, the support team at BlueHost have been very helpful and have been guiding him through the maze. He and I both know very little about hosting, and all the other details that go with it. I can get by on my blogs because I use WordPress and I hardly ever touch my BlueHost panel. But with my husband, our daughter designed his website from scratch. No WordPress there. That means he is at the mercy of our 14 year old daughter to check and make sure all his coding is correct. hehe! Scary.
