Dim Sum in Durham

PhotobucketThere is only one place that we’ve found so far that serves pretty good dim sum in Durham. We’re pretty lucky it is just down the street from us. From what I’ve heard, there aren’t very many other dim sum restaurants in the area. There is another one we’ve heard of but it hadn’t had good reviews. What self respecting dim sum joint not serve chicken feet? We heard this other place doesn’t serve anything but the generic dumplings. I can believe it their dinner menu, though it has gotten good reviews, was the generic stuff in brown sauce or white sauce. Now if you ever see a menu that describes a dish doused in brown sauce, you know you’re in trouble. But, enough of what I don’t like.

On Christmas day, after opening presents, we decided to go to our usual dim sum place down the street, Hong Kong restaurant. It’s my favorite and if you ask the girls where they want to go, this will be their first place they would pick. Dim Sum at Hong Kong Restaurant is usually served between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. on weekends. On weekdays, you can order certain items from their dim sum menu and they will oblige you, but you don’t get the variety that is available only on weekends. Plus, you miss out on the ladies pushing the carts around laden with goodies. All you have to do is point to the one that catches your eye and you are given a serving.

See’s Candy part deux

PhotobucketI believe I have mentioned before how much we love See’s Candy. Well, my sisters are also in on this fact. My Sister O sent a two pound box for Christmas; and not to be outdone, my Sister S sent two gift certificates for See’s candy! We have been chomping on the box sent by sister O since before Christmas. It’s almost gone.

So yesterday, I got online to verify, fingers crossed, that the See’s cart is still at Southpoint Mall. How lucky can I get. Yesterday was the last night they were going to be at the mall! So after work, we ran down there to get our box full of nuts and chews and creamy centered goodies. *sigh* I had a good Christmas. How about you?

Tomagotchi is coming to town!

We won the Tomagotchi giveaway!

What a coincidence that one of the girls actually had Tomagotchi on their Christmas wishlist this year. Then when Elizabeth emailed to ask which color I wanted, guess what, one of her offers was the exact color, Yellow! So I know someone will be really happy to get their wish this Christmas.

It has been a while since they had their original Tomagotchis. When the big girls were about 7 or 8 years old they started their romance with Tomagotchis. Jade lost hers on the same day she got it. She was so excited about getting it that she brought it to a birthday party with a bunch of other kids running around; despite dire warnings from her mommy not to bring it, she brought it anyway. Let’s just say she didn’t come home with her pet and was miserable for days afterwards especially when her mean old mommy wouldn’t buy her a replacement.

Asi, gloated for a couple of weeks because she still had her Tomagotchi. She kept it on her almost daily, nurturing it, playing with it, feeding it. Then I supposed the novelty wore off or it may have gotten buried among the junk by her bed. She forgot about it and it went uncared for for days. Maybe even weeks. Then one day she pulled him from the rubble and sadly discovered that he had turned evil. He was now a wild little monster. She tried to revive him for a while, tried to nurture him back to health but other things vied at her attention yet again. Somewhere in her messy room, that Tomagotchi probably still roams, but he’s probably now a mass murderer somewhere in Tomagotchi nowhere land.

Hopefully, the new Tomagotchi who’s coming to town will fare better in our household. We are all anxiously awaiting his arrival. :)

Prom Nights From Hell

In the wake of the Twilight series, Asi, my teen fantasy fiction supplier, handed me this book. Prom Nights from Hell is a collection of short stories from notable authors such as Meg Cabot, Lauren Myracle, Kim Harrison, Michele Jaffe and of course Stephenie Meyer. For quick reads while waiting in the car, while waiting for water to boil for pasta or while waiting to get a turn on the computer, these short stories are good enough to whet one’s appetite for the macabre.

I liked the variety of characters in the collection from the vampire slayer, the ‘dim’ reaper, the super hero to the demon. It is but a teaser though, it doesn’t have the satiated feel you get from reading a whole novel. But for a quickie, it is good enough. Now I want to find more novels from these authors.

If you’re into vampires and paranormal, I stumbled on this site, Vampire Wire, which focuses on just that.

Tomagotchi Giveaway

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at PhotobucketElizabeth at Table4Five is having a Tamagotchi giveaway for Christmas! All you have to do is leave a comment to gain one entry to the raffle. Leave her a link of something Christmassy on your blog and gain another entry, and if you blog about it like I’m doing now, you gain a third!

Easy enough, right? And just about now, you are probably thinking this woman wants these Tamagotchis real bad. Well, you’re right. Not for me, but for Asi who for some reason likes to take care of inanimate pets. Because, as she says, “they don’t bite!” and she doesn’t have to clean up after them. :)

Buy your own Tomagotchi at Amazon.
Or give an Amazon Gift Card and let your special someone can buy it for themselves!
