Meizu Review

My daughter bought the Meizu MP3 player with her birthday money this year. At first she was looking at an MP3 player that also had a digital camera but her aunt convinced her that perhaps it is not such a good idea to combine functions because then you end up dilluting the capability of each function. My daughter was still set on having all the features in one unit though, until she realized that the player/cam she was considering is an obscure brand without any warranties. So, she started her search anew and came up with this. Here’s her review:
The Meizu Mini Player has an iPod like setup, but the is so much more! The screen goes horizontally across the player, and the touch scroll, or whatever it’s called, goes vertical next to it. It saves a lot of space, so the screen is still quite large(2” x 1.5”) but the device can still fit in your pocket, or clutch right alongside your other stuff. The player comes in two colors, white or black, mine is black. And the backside is a mirror, with all the specs. It also comes in two memory sizes, 4GB or 8GB. The 4GB is what I have, and it’s a pretty good size so far. The screen and back both have adhesive covers so I still don’t have any dents, nicks or scratches. It sticks on pretty good, the only part coming off is on one corner because I was so tempted, and tried to peel it off. n_n;; There’s 2 buttons in addition to the scroller, one at the top, which acts as the power button and the play/pause button. The one at the bottom is a hold button that deactivates all the other buttons.
The actual features are what goes above and beyond any of the iPod!! The meizu is smaller than a video iPod, but it has all of the following features:
- MP3 (WAV etc.)
- VIDEO(AVI only, but it comes with a converter and their site also has some better ones, so you can have all your home vids etc. on the device)
- FM Radio!! iPod doesn’t have this one.
- Ebooks!
- A Voice Recorder!
- A built-in Radio Recorder, so you listen to it’s radio and you can get MP3 quality sound! I use this one soooo much when I’m bored.
- GAMES, there’s one where you move boxes around in a puzzle, and another Chinese one I haven’t quite figured out yet.
- Tools like a calendar, stopwatch, and calculator.
- There’s also a browser taht allows you to view all your files and delete them directly from the device!
- A PHOTO VIEWER with slideshow setting.
Yeah, so the video and photos show up soooo clear, if they’re good quality files. I can read subtitles on here! Oh, and you can set specific pictures as your wallpaper, and if it’s too close to the text color, you can change it!

So I fell in loooove with this thing, as soon as I got it, and can you believe it’s only $100!! OK, so, it’s not completely perfect, but the bugs aren’t that bad:
- I haven’t found out how to set my own presets on the FM radio, it self-scans for stations, and it really only picks up the BIG waves, you can do manual tuning though, but I don’t know if you can save them as presets…
- You have to convert all your videos, yeah it kinda sucks, you can’t just drag and drop, even if they’re already AVI, you have to convert. And it kinda cut off the edges on some of my vids, but I don’t know who’s fault that was. I use a really fast, and easy converter “Loli” you can download it here. There was one video that it didn’t convert well, and I read on the boards it happened to some other people, so I guess I’ll have to keep testing that out….
OK so that’s most that I can think of now… I’ll add some edits later if there’s more.
But Meizu M6 is a great buy! I’m so happy with it, and I keep playing the videos over and over cuz it’s soooo pretty! And I really want to find some other stuff to download. Like some Kdramas. Oh so if you know how I can purchase or download some stuff let me know. The miniplayer, along with any other non-iPod device, is not compatible with iTunes etc! I’d reccomend it to all my friends. We have so much fun with it when we’re hanging out or at lunch. VIVA MEIZU MINIPLAYER!

JMom says,
Hi Girlie, my other daughter, Asi, has the iPod Nano and now she is already eyeing another player, the Zune, because she saw this player and liked having a larger screen.
Jade actually downloads and watches her Korean teledrama on this mp3 and she can read the subtitles well enough.
I answered the tag already at Amoores.com.
