Slammerkin by Emma Donoghue

Another great read! Slammerkin by Emma Donoghue is loosely based on the true story of one Mary Saunders who in 1763 murdered her mistress in gruesome fashion. The book asks, is it the dress that makes the woman or does the woman make the dress? Briefly, this book is about a girl who grew up as a prostitute on the streets of London. Her life on the fast lane quickly spiraled out of control and she ends up running away to a small town where she got a chance for a new life. Whether it is because maybe we have tendencies intrinsic to our nature that we just can’t get away from or maybe it is a conscious choice we make, it doesn’t really matter. In the end, who we are inside eventually makes it outside.
